System Integration

Maximo supports full-lifecycle enterprise asset management.  It is capable of handling financial transactions, procurement, inventory management, contract management, quality control, and many other functions of asset management.  However, many organizations already have other systems in place for some or all of these functions.

Using best-of-breed tools for each function provides robust functionality, but if your systems are not integrated, it may come at a cost, such as:

  • Training users on multiple systems, some of which have a steep learning curve
  • Maintaining potentially-costly user licenses on multiple systems
  • Requiring users to enter the same information in multiple systems, leading to frustration and inaccuracy

By integrating systems, your users can work in the system that relates to their day-to-day operations, while still having visibility into the rest of the organization.  In this way, they won’t need to be experts in other systems that are merely peripheral to their job.  You won’t need to maintain duplicate user licenses for all affected systems.  Most importantly, though, you won’t have to sacrifice visibility or data integrity.

Maximo includes a robust framework, aptly called the Maximo Integration Framework (MIF), allowing Maximo to communicate with other systems using common protocols such as RESTful and SOAP-based web services, OSLC, database connections, text files, and various other formats.  Our team has successfully used the MIF to integrate with many other systems, including:
