Here’s another important End Of Support date.

WebSpere App Server ImageHere’s another important End Of Support date. IBM announced that support for WebSphere Application Server 6.1, a main component of many Maximo deployments, will reach EOS on September 30, 2013. You may be wondering if this affects you, and how.

To be clear, this date was originally announced to be Sept 30, 2012, and it has since been extended until September 30, 2013, which is quickly approaching. The official IBM announcement says: “IBM is extending the end-of-service date of IBM WebSphere Application Server V6.1 from September 30, 2012 to September 30, 2013. IBM strongly encourages you to migrate to more currently supported versions of WebSphere Application Server and this change to the end-of-service date provides more time for you to better plan a successful migration. Moving to current versions of WebSphere Application Server provides a much broader set of functions (for both developers and operations) and improves performance and total cost of ownership.”

IBM recommends…

…performing these managed transitions through your trusted IBM Business Partner that has been trained on the Maximo 7.5 upgrade process. Maven has an experienced and trained upgrade team ready to enhance your upgrade experience through proven planning and implementation methods.

If you’re like us, “Improved Total Cost of Ownership” and “End of Support” are terms that raise your antennae. Sorting through the process of such an upgrade can be complex. Maven has considerable experience with this and all Maximo/TPAE upgrades and will be glad to assess your upgrade needs and concerns. Just send an email or give any one of us a call.

Maven Simplifies The Process

We provided a chart graphic with last month’s newsletter that represents the complex upgrade paths to Maximo 7.5x from previous versions which also shows associations between the various versions of Maximo and WAS. If you are now running 6.2x or earlier, we can show you some sound and effective ways to upgrade without much of the cost and time spent on a typical multi-release upgrade. It’s also a good time to consider that such an upgrade will include a migration to the newest WebSphere version. This may be your simplest path to maintaining current middleware.

Maven’s combination of skills and experience, tools and time-saving methods translate into the most cost-effective and shortest path to your trouble-free WebSphere migration or Maximo upgrade.
